Water for Life - "Projects for Women" Competition

Over the course of the centuries, the demand for water has increased. Indeed, consumption has increased six-fold in recent years, leading to the excessive exploitation of water resources, which have been further depleted by urbanization and pollution. All those working in water management are responsible for ensuring safe, clean water.
The project, promoted by Fondazione AMGA and coordinated by the LIAG Laboratories is part of a broader research effort on the quality of water destined for human consumption.
The majority of the project’s participants are women, both as representatives of international institutions and as the heads of the laboratories involved, which are associated with the Florence, Turin, Genoa, Como, Bologna, Cagliari, and Venice aqueducts. A research has been carried out on “endocrine disruptors", a group of substances that interact with the endocrine system, with potential impacts on health.
This research is innovative both in terms of the topics it investigates – since the compounds under study may be inserted in Community legislation – and the great number of partners involved.
The project did not find significant risks of exposure: the project’s results were widely disseminated, thus helping boost consumer confidence and reducing the consumption of bottled water.
Women and mothers were the main targets of this awareness-raising campaign.
