On the weight are the names of the Emperor Valerian and his son Gallienus. Since the emperors’ dates of birth are readable on the weight, absolute dating was achieved: October 23, 255 – October 22, 256 AD. On the reverse is the name of the governor named Marcus Antonius Hieron who was the former governor of the Cappadocia state. The spot, where the agoranomos responsible for the market place is situated, is unreadable due to the current bad condition of the inscription. The amount of weight of the weights was under the states’ supervision during ancient times. For this reason, they contained the names of related officers. With the coming of the Roman Age of Empire, between 27 BC and 395 AD, weights started to have the names of the emperor, governor and local officer of the time.
