The American Telegraphone Co. was having problems—a factory had to close in 1908, and the company got into financial difficulties. It was not until 1912 that it was able to launch the first wire recording devices. However, only a few hundred telegraphones sold. The chemical company DuPont was the only company to establish a dictation center, in which letters were dictated over the phone. In 1920 the Telegraphone Company went bankrupt.
