A facsimile of a drawing of William Paterson, the original being in the British Museum. William Paterson was born 1658 and died 1719 and was director of the Bank from 1694 to 1695. He suggested the scheme on which the Bank was founded in 1694.
The drawing is a bust portrait facing to left. It is oval shaped on a pedestal with the Latin motto ‘Sic vos non vobis’ below, or ‘For you, but not yours.’
