Bai Xueshi was born in Bejing, whose study was named Hexuzhai. He was a member of China Artists Association. He was first taught by Zhao Mengzhu and then by Liang Shunian. He joined the “Hu Society of Painting” in 1933 and from 1958 onward, he taught at Beijing Normal College, Beijing Arts College and the Central Academy of Arts and Crafts. After 1972, he painted dozens of large-scale Chinese paintings for Zhongnanhai, The Great Hall of the People, and the Diaoyutai State Guesthouse, among other foreign affairs organizations. Bai specialized in mountain and water painting and was most famous for his landscapes featuring the green mountains and water in Guilin.
