This is a winter headgear worn by men and women in the Joseon Dynasty. It was called pungdengi, or a beetle in Korean, since the back of the headgear resembled the said insect. The top of the headgear was left open while the wearer’s ears, neck and head were covered. The exterior was made of silk, the inside lined with silk or cotton, and the hem was made with fur. The front and middle parts of the headgear for women were decorated with tassels and jewels, while those for men had no ornaments and were worn under an official hat or a gat hat.
