With the small controller which C.G. Yates, autopilot development engineer in the General Electric Aeronautic and Ordinance System Division, hold in his hands, and the six other autopilot components grouped before him, the navy's newest and fastest jet aircraft can be accurately stabilized and automatically flown with only finger-tip control by the human pilot. Directly under the controller which Yates holds is the amplifier or "Brain" of the system. To the left and right of the amplifier are gyroscopes which provide stabilization signals, and in front are the three motor-driven actuators which move the control surfaces in response to command from the autopilot.
