Woman Oplećak vest

Made of homemade cotton fabric. Composed of a front and back panels, long broad sleeves that begin at the neckline, godets and gussets inserted between the panels. The neckline is oval and the whole oplećak is richly gathered around it. Sleeves disposed in pleats at the wrists and flare in the form of ruffles. Open in the front. Along the neckline and on the back, decorated with vertical floral stripes embroidered in black, red, green and blue wool. The upper sleeve contains fields of white work, rasplet, and filet lace embellished with sequins and black cotton. Sleeve edges made of blue filet lace with embroidery in white cotton over it. Above the lace, a strip embroidered in silver thread and sequins. A tassel of blue and purple wool and white cotton sewn onto each of the narrow parts of the sleeve. An integral part of the traditional dress of Šokac women. Made c. 1945 for Danica Vuković, Vera Lazić’s mother, who was a teacher at Bački Monoštor. Home handwork. Fabric woven using two heddles. Joined by hand. Embroidery: white work (rasplet), sequin embroidery (šljokanka), counted stitch (ispisara and napuštena pružanka), and full stitch. Length: 62 cm; sleeve length: 75 cm; hemline circumference: 149 cm; lace: 13 cm.
