The kira, the national costume of Bhutanese women, is a rectangular cloth with horizontal stripes. Worn wrapped around the body, the kira is folded into a wide pleat in front, fastened at the shoulders with silver clasps, and tightly belted at the waist.
The cloth is woven on a backstrap loom; it takes several pieces to construct a kira. It takes up to nine months to weave kiras as finely made as this one.
This example is unusual for its bold geometric patterns and finely woven details.
