The palette of Women with Geese is similar to the work of Cézanne, although Rivera showed off what he learned from cubism, particularly on his treatment of the houses in the background, which dominate the painting, looming as they do over the fragility of the woman and the barely suggested geese.
The tranquility of the country scene is threatened by the presence of a zeppelin that Rivera included in the upper left corner, in allusion to the First World War, still in progress when this painting was executed.
