After his return to Germany in 1953 Meidner moved into Frankfurt’s Jewish retirement home, where numerous Holocaust survivors were living. Here he started painting in oil again after the years in England, where he was hardly able to afford paint and canvases. One focus of his artistic work after his return was portraiture.
