The 80s were a turning point for Zhu Naizheng, as his choice of subject matter gradually changed from being figure-centered to landscape-centered. As for the style he used in his oil paintings, he began to explore new forms of expression by incorporating brushwork from Chinese calligraphy and striving to create a dialogue between Eastern and Western art.
In 1980, when Zhu was transferred from Qinhai, where he had worked for over 20 years, back to the CAFA, he created the painting Woman. Taken together, the soft lighting, the simple tones and the eye-level perspective can be seen as signs of the artistic reform that Zhu would later undertake. --- Song Jinming
