Women's beach pyjama set

This 1930s set of pale blue silk beach pyjamas is decorated with Art Deco and Japanese inspired screen printed motifs. The bolero jacket, which flares out at the sleeves, and the wide leg pants, are both fully lined in cream silk.

Silk, crepe de chine or satin 'beach pyjamas' were created by French designer Coco Chanel in the 1920s. Worn for sophisticated parties or as resortwear in the 1930s, they represented freedom and style for the emancipated woman.
