A so-called “babka” — a small, compact stake anvil with a flat head, set in a solid wooden stump. On this anvil, the goldsmith would cold-forge metal in the form of a flat bar, using appropriate hammers. Then, the metal was shaped into an increasingly thinner metal sheet, with a larger and larger surface. Rods cast using the wire mould were worked in a similar way, with the aim to make them longer and thinner.
