This is a copy of Victoria Woodhull's "memorial" or argument before Congress on the constitutionality of a woman's right to vote. She was aided in her defense by General Benjamin Butler, famous Civil War General turned politician. While her plea was eloquent enough, some suffragists were opposed to her presentation, believing that her public notoriety would reflect on the legitimacy of the suffrage movement as a whole.
