c. 1710

When this drawing featured in Sotheby’s 2011 auction of the Stuart Cary Welch collection, it was attributed as a South Indian study of a temple interior. The image is a drawing of an actual temple and shows Shiva and Parvati with Nandi. A separate sheet of paper attached to the reverse bears various invocations, probably added later.
