This design seeks to create a memorial that is both a formal garden of remembrance and a dignified public space; a place of serenity and simplicity, yet with a monumental presence. It is designed to be a place of contemplation: uplifting, inclusive, a place of respec. It is a peoples space, not heroic or triumphant list, but reflective. The principal component is a stone pergola, open in all directions and set level with gentle sloping lawns around with ramps for mobility impaired access. An open oak roof maintains a garden identity at the memorial.
