Wörlitz, castle, ballroom

The palace's ballroom facing the park is modelled on the “Galleria” of Palazzo Farnese in Rome, which Prince Franz and his companion Friedrich Wilhelm von Erdmannsdorff visited during the Grand Tour in 1766. Despite its orientation towards models from Antiquity and the Italian Renaissance, the hall also reveals a furnishing element that is modern for the 18th century: behind the closed door in the corner of the hall is a folding bed.
