Yao Dan

This female role in Sichuan opera is also known as the “clownish female character,” or “clownish woman.” She is often found in comedies or farcical plays, and is in essence a female clown. The character sports a cow-horn braid. She often represents an evil old woman or stepmother, and is typically a caustic, browbeating bully.
