The traditional Yao-style dog tail outfit, named for its dog-tail-like belt that hangs from the back of waist, is usually composed of a blouse, a bellyband and a skirt. The back of this handspun blouse applies the applique embroidery, by which the crafters paste cut-outs onto the foundation weave, and then fix them with stitches along the edges of the patches. Six groups of lozenge-shaped appliques with foundation colors of light blue, black and purple are arranged on the back in two rows, three groups in each row with alternating colors. On each of the lozenges there are floral patterns by plain embroidery outlined by circular patterns symbolizing the sun done by chain stitches with occasionally fixed sequins. Hemmed with thin silver threads, these appliques are fixed onto the foundation with yellow chain stitches. With vivid forms and a bright palette, these decorative patterns in harmonious contrast with the colorful appliques.
