A ballet by the Venezuelan choreographer Carlos Orta. 'Yekuana' is created for Nederlands Dans Theater on the music of Isabel Arentz. The foundations upon which this composition is constructed, can be found in the religious customs of an indigenous group of people of canoeist in the Amazon. Like more groups, they distinguish heaven, earth and a dark underworld and believe in shamanism. In this ballet Orta relates this sense of spirituality to the love between two men.
