Yeosaseo oenhae - The Four Books for Women (Vernacular edition)

This edition of the Yeosaseo is based on the 1737 edition, compiled by Yi Deoksu(李德壽) under direct royal order by King Yeongjo. Unlike other surviving versions of the Yeosaseo, this edition only consists of the vernacular annotations of the original Hanmun (literary Sinitic) text. It was reprinted in Korea by the Government Printing Office, with vernacular annotations. The Yeosaseo oenhae consists of four different works: Precepts for Women(Yeogye 女誡), written by Cao Dajia of the Later Han Dynasty); Analects for Women(Yeononeo 女論語), written by Song Ruozhao of the Tang Dyansty; Instructions for Women (Naehun 內訓), written by Empress Consort Xu who was the consort of the Ming Yongle Emperor; and Concise Selection of Model Women (Yeobeom cheomnok 女範捷錄), written by Wang Jiefu of the Ming. This 1737 edition only contains vernacular annotations for the first three works. This particular edition of the Yeosaseo in the vernacular reveals orthographical rules typical of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It can be considered a highly valuable text for research in historical linguistics.
