Work: Many people experience different forms of abuse that can make the victim feel powerless and vulnerable. The frontal composition draws the eye to the unearthly
“demonic” figure in the centre. It represents an abuser who believes they have power and control over their victim. The child symbolizes victims being taken advantage of for their
lack of strength, courage, power, and status in the situation. The gag over the child’s mouth written “If you tell anyone …” emphasizes the control and dominance of the abuser over their
victim and the fragility of the victim in an abusive relationship as they seem disempowered and unprotected. The dark background represents the negative emotions and trauma that
arises from experiencing abuse. The fish, underwater structures, and the bird surrounding the unearthly "demonic" figure and the child represents the potential to heal from past trauma by asking for help, and there lies the hope that everything will be okay with time. The concept of this piece is about overcoming abuse. Inside every victim lies the power to choose to heal
from past trauma and ask for help as it is always available even in dark times or when you think no one will help you. The medium used is a black ballpoint pen, pencil crayons and
pencil.
