These curious looking creatures are the larval stages of the sea urchin. They are microscopic and drift in the ocean as zooplankton for several months before they settle on a hard service. Once they have settled they undergo metamorphosis and begin to resemble the opaqueround spiny creatures that are familiar rockpool finds.
