Description: By 1878, the young Jean-Louis Forain had met and become friends with the artists known as the Impressionists, aligning himself with the more urban vision of Édouard Manet and Edgar Degas and their scenes of everyday life. It was around that time that he produced Young Woman in Blue, a glimmering study of an alluring young woman attending one of the glamorous soirées Forain found so fascinating. Soon after completing Young Woman in Blue, Forain would exhibit for the first time with the Impressionists, showing twenty-seven works at the group’s fourth exhibition in 1879.
