Yıldız Pavillion

Ahmed I (1603-1617) was the first sultan to have built a small pavillion in this wooded area in which the sultans went hunting since the reign of Süleyman I (the Magnificent) (1520-1566). This small structure was subsequently followed by a kiosk Selim III (1789-1808) commissioned in 1804-1805 in honour of his mother Mihrişah Valide Sultan (d. 1805), the Yıldız Pavillion Mahmud II (1808-1839) built, and the Kasr-ı Dilküşâ Kiosk erected by Abdülmecid (1839-1861) for his mother Bezmiâlem Valide Sultan (d. 1853) in 1842. As of the construction of the pavillion that Mahmud II built, the name “Yıldız” was given to the palace complex, which would spread across this property during the reign of Abdülhamid II (1876-1909), as well as the neighbourhood that surrounded it. The structure seen from afar in the panorama must be the Kasr-ı Dilküşâ.
