Hans van Manen has some pronounced ideas about tango. "You have to stay away from that. We cannot imitate tango here in the Netherlands, it is too typical Argentinian. Even though I would love to create a traditional tango, I could not come close to what the Argentinian are able to do with it. What I can do though, is use the music in order to create my own kind of thing."
According to the renowned choreographer, however, 'Zero Hour' reveals the atmosphere and inclination of tango. "It is a tango ballet, but I did not want that word in the title. 'Zero Hour' means something like silence before the storm. It has nothing to do with my '5 Tango's' from 1977."
