This étui, or needle case, is covered with gold reliefs showing nymphs making offerings to the Roman goddess Venus or Ceres, putti flying or seated on clouds, and, at the top, pastoral trophies, all surrounded by delicate floral garlands and scrollwork. There is a gold inscription on the small horizontal band of white enamel separating the lower part of the case from the sliding lid.
