“What does the modern age characterize?” Léon Bakst asked himself as he thought about contemporary women. “Sportiness” was the answer. However, Bakst’s outfits are only meant for slim, almost underfed tall figures with an exquisite grace in every move. Asked why, along with his attempts to present something new and bold, he continues looking back at the antique times, Mr. Bakst says that he wants to express the spring of the Earth sartorially.
Mr. Bakst, so far known for his ballet and stage costumes, has impressively showed his worth as a designer of costumes for modern women.
