On 13 May 1909 in Petersburg the church builder Ivan Fyodorovich Tyutchev died. His family fulfilled his last wish—to be buried near the walls of the Muranovo church. The funeral procession from Petersburg to Muranovo went through Moscow. In her diary Ekaterina Ivanovna Tyutcheva wrote: What a return home it was, to our dear Muranovo, which Nedi was so anxious to get to in the final stage of his illness! On the platform (Akushinskaya – author’s note) the peasants of Muranovo, Grishino, and other surrounding villages had gathered. Father Rakhmanovsky said the funeral prayer and we set off. I must say that there is nothing more difficult, painful, and dreadful than this last road; it’s almost impossible to imagine. It only took the first toll of the Muranovo bell to turn my soul! … How we suffered, approaching the house and the church, when we walked past the open and ready grave! After the service a wreath was laid with the touching inscription, “to the kind and helpful master, from the servants of Muranovo” … A great many people came to the funeral, made speeches at the grave … then a very long dinner … Finally, everyone left. Only the archimandrite Dimitrii and Sofya Grigoryevna remained. In the church they hung up all the wreaths that had been placed on Nedi’s grave… One of the wreaths, in the form of a cross made from white roses and lilies, was sent on behalf of Their Majesties the Emperor, the Empress, and their children.
