The Newest Evening Wraps
Anne Rittenhouse
New York, 12 October — The Russian Ballet, dressed by Léon Bakst, has arguably played some role in the new fashion for delightful coats for day and evening visits, because after all, Bakst copied and created his designs based upon Oriental styles; for example, these exciting costumes displayed in Scheherazade must have been inspired by old Baghdad; although they were created by a Russian, and Russians wear them, being inspired by the music written by another Russian.
In many articles of outerwear that well-off women will be wearing this winter there is an obvious trend towards the use of brilliant shades designed by Bakst.
Afternoon outfits
Long and large velvet coats of bright colors with lots of fur that makes a thin and light coat a good choice for the coldest January weather are designed as daily afternoon wear.
Luxurious gold embroidery
Gold embroidery used to be considered unacceptable for streetwear. There was a distinct difference between the clothes that should be worn during daytime and in the evening; however, in the ordinary way, the idea lost its relevance, when designers started to develop, experiment, and acquired many ideas for more luxurious outfits.
Dual-purpose
Bernard designed the coat in parallel with many others, which are dual-purpose as day and evening wear.
