Chen Ping-chuan (1896-1991), a native of Taishan (in Guangdong province), was a renowned economist and educationist. He founded the Guangzhou University with fellow scholars in 1927 and became its president. After receiving his doctorate in the United States in 1943, he travelled around the world and visited various educational institutions, studying their education systems while at the same time promoting the nationalist cause. Upon his return to China in 1948, he was well received by the intellectuals. This album is about thirty contributors celebrating his return. Ye Gongchuo, the classical scholar and senior official, wrote the frontispiece and preface. other contributors included Zhang Xiangning (1911-1958), a well-known painter and seal-carver, and Wu Qingshi (1882-1968), a specialist of provincial literature.
