Dragon-Shaped Bi

Hubei Provincial Museum

Hubei Provincial Museum
Wuhan, China

Bi is a piece of jade with a hole in the center. This Bi is mostly dark yellow, with a shade of brown on its edge. It is flat and unvarnished. On its both sides there are two dragons, whose midsection and tail is connected to the major piece. Despite its simple shape, the smoothly polished jade demonstrates how the craftman understood life and the beauty of simplicity.
