Rare and precious specimens are usually trophies pursued by private collectors. Museum collections also contain such specimens. The purpose is not only keeping the specimens as public property, but also using them in an effective and efficient way by the public or researchers. Myromexocentrus quadrimaculatus (Coleoptera: Cerambycidae) is unarguably one of the rarest longhorn beetle species endemic to Taiwan. Only two known specimens of the species exist: the female holotype in the National Museum of Nature and Science in Tokyo, and this male specimen in NMNS. This specimen was donated by Yi-Ting Chung who collected it in 2009, nearly 30 years later after the first was found.
