Ynanagawa Meishou-zue

The illustration shows Ohanabatake garden in the Tachibana family’s estate.
The editor, Nishihara Ippo (1760-1844), was a feudal retainer of the Yanagawa domain, holding the official post in Edo (now Tokyo). Since he was sensitive to trends and kept company with the greatest literati, he was a distinguished figure in the Yanagawa domain as a person who came into contact with the most advanced culture.
He edited ‘Yanagawa Meishou-zue (Illustrated Guide to the Famous Places of Yanagawa)’ imitating the booklets of landmark guides that were popular in those days, but it wasn’t published. The booklet here is a draft of the illustrated guide.
