Hangzhou, China

The artist Chen Shuiqin, a female Chinese arts and crafts master born in 1946 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province, illustrated a scene of seven ducks leisurely playing and looking for food in a lotus pond with this decorative screen based on an ingenious design after long-term thinking. Having innovated the traditional techniques of the Hang Embroidery, she applied to this piece the crossed and overlapped stitches as the main technique, supplemented by random stitches to express the textures of ducks, lotus leaves and waterweeds. With a bright and passionate color palette and a vivid illustration, this piece revealing a pleasant summer scene won the Gold Award at the fourth Arts and Crafts Exhibition of Hangzhou.
