Deinagkistrodon acutus

This snake has a terrifying colloquial name in Taiwan: Hundred-pace Snake, meaning once get bitten you may die in hundred steps while running away. It seems the most dangerous venomous snake in Taiwan. It is said that its toxicity is good to human health, over-harvest in the wild has caused its population severe decline to nearly extinction. A snake of this size is rarely seen in the wild presently. This specimen is one of a number of 2,200 specimens donated to NMNS by Dr. Shou.-Hsian.
