Garments like this one are known as horse-face shirts in China due to the shape of panels. The highlight of this skirt in terms of decoration lies in its hem which is decorated with patterns made by gold couching embroidery and padded applique embroidery. Gauze patches with various sizes are attached and fixed onto the foundation fabric to form patterns of lotuses, peaches and paired butterflies flying around peony blossoms, with layers of petals outlined by gold thread stitches. Pasted onto a pad of paper after sizing, the gauze pieces would take on a gradual shift from lighter to darker shades by rendering, giving a highly-decorative effect to this garment.
