With a stand collar, long sleeves and a diagonal placket, the jacket was created by piecing together multiple pieces of fish skin with light colors. The breaches on these pieces caused by removing the fins were filled with fish skin with similar colors. Stitching together fish skin pieces is a key step in making a fish skin garment as apart from the continuity of patterns, the smoothing and flattening of the skin, the crafters also need to consider the shape and size of the garment.
The slit, cuff and bottom is hemmed with fish skin of a darker color and decorated with patterns of ruyi-shaped intertwined leaves, one type among the favorite motifs of the Hezhe people, made of cut-outs of pike or sheatfish skin.
