Made of handspun cotton cloth, this pair of short pants has a height of 47cm, a leg width of 22cm and a broad crotch with a flattened width of 65cm. A belt made of the same fabric is attached to the waist band to tie around the waist of the wearer. Due to the limit of width of fabrics spun by local handmade looms, such kind of trousers, also known as “loose crotch pants”, has to be done by piecing together multiple rectangular patches, sometimes with remnants by the Yao women in order to save fabrics.
This pair of trousers has a solid structure, usually to go with a pair of gaiters tied around the ankles and lowers legs with strips knit in orange threads. In black with no decorative patterns, this piece of bottom would pose an interesting contrast to a top covered with orange embroidered motifs.
