Hezhe People’s Fish Skin Close-crotch Trousers Front

Fish skin trousers worn by the Hezhe people fall into two main categories, close-crotch pants (a definition in comparison with crotchless trousers) and a pair of trousers legs without crotch or waist. This pair of close-crotch trousers has a height of 96cm, with its waist 4cm high, and trousers leg 20cm wide. This garment was created by piecing together multiple pieces of fish skin with light colors. The breaches on these pieces caused by removing the fins were filled with fish skin with similar colors. The bottom of the trousers legs is hemmed with fish skin strips of a darker color and decorated with patterns of ruyi-shaped intertwined leaves made of sheatfish skin. These cut-outs were firstly pasted to the proper positions with a kind of glue made of swim bladder and then fixed by densely-arranged stitches along the borders. A belt also made of fish skin would be used to tie the waist of trousers around that of the wearer.
