Shaping the body on a wheel, late 18th century

Here the round pieces are thrown on the wheel. The wheel consists of a disk of wood mounted on a vertical axle revolving continuously to ensure the body is shaped with an even thickness. An assistant is seen holding a rope attached to the ceiling and turning the wheel with his foot.
