Hubei Provincial Museum

Hubei Provincial Museum
Wuhan, China

The complete jade belt consists of a Daitou (带头, front decoration), six peach-shaped Kua (銙, belt ornament), two longer Kua with one rounded end, and seven rectangular Kua arranged between the two long Kua.

The front ornament of the belt is composed of three rectangular Kua inlaid in gold. The center Kua has a flower shape and an inlaid jade decoration depicting a four-clawed dragon. The dragon's mane is carved in elegantly flowing lines, corresponding to the surrounding cloud pattern. Due to age and corrosion, the jade surface is rusted and covered with white powder from oxidation. This color is called "chicken bone white".
