Bone Fish-hooks

Fish hooks, harpoons, and spindles of fishing nets excavated at ruins from the Jōmon Period (16,500-3,000 BCE) confirm that the Jōmon people fished in various ways. This fish hook is made from bone. Similar to the design of fish hooks today, this hook has a hole for fishing line and a barb. The use of the fish hook appeared in the early Jōmon Period (around 12,000-7,000 years ago), and from the last Jomon period (around 4,500-3,300 years ago), fish hooks of various shapes were used.
