This suit of armor was owned by Tachibana Akinobu, the 11th lord of the Yanagawa domain, who died young at the age of 19. As it is said “small sized armor” in the management note of the Tachibana family, this armor might be made for something like the coming-of-age ceremony.
It has a gold maki-e design of a family crest (Gion-mamori) on the ‘fukikaeshi’ —turn back plates at the front edge of the upper rows of neck guard— and on the ‘gyoyo’ —leaf-shaped hanging plates on the upper part of breast. However, as a feudal lord’s armor, the whole impression is still simple.
