Lacquered dinning table inlaid with Mother-of-Pearl

Depicting pomegranates, fishes and crabs, this small square dining table is embellished with mother-of-pearl and red paints on the edge. Pomegranates are placed at the top of the frame and on the left is a rock and fish and crabs mingled on the other side. The surface is full of wavy dotted lines of mother-of-pearl; a technique that was prevalently used in late Joseon Dynasty. Furthermore, Uh-haemoon, the fish and crab figure, is one of the patterns widely used in folk painting in late Joseon Dynasty. The dynamic movements of the fishes under the water brings the liveliness to this dining table.
