This lion rank badge was worn by Lee Jun-min (1524-1590). In 1556, during King Myeong-jong's 11th year, he passed the civil examination and ranked in the third tier. Lee Jun-min was part of the Jeonui Lee Clan, which was known to have a family history of military service. He lived up to his family reputation by being appointed to important positions.
In Buddhism, the lion is considered a magical animal that upholds the Buddha dharma and the truth, and symbolizes authority and dignity. The body of the lion was embroidered in blue thread, with a furry tail that appears rolled up. Its curly mane was embroidered in gold couching stitch.
