Bitjeopgobi, or comb rack, is a tool used to store a comb case containing combs or pins for parting hair and cleaning combs. It is made by weaving thin wooden strips into a rectangular shape before applying paper on both back and front, and then attaching thick paper again so as to create a slot for inserting a comb case. The rack is decorated with a variety of motifs. A comb rack was designed to fit with the surrounding furniture in the room, and produced in varying designs in line with the room-owner’s tastes. The back side of the rack shown here is layered with paper to create a bottom board, while the lower part of the front is folded to create the space for a comb case. The front side is adorned with a variety of motifs, accompanying designs of a crane, a phoenix, and a dragon. The upper and lower parts are completed with wooden frames. A twisted red string is attached to the top.
