Samo is a hat that accompanied the general-purpose uniform for government officials from the late Goryeo era until the late Joseon Dynasty. It consists of a peak with a wing-shaped attachment on both sides and a two-tiered body with a low front and high rear. The exterior of the hat was woven out of bamboo thread and horsehair then covered with silk. In the early Joseon Dynasty, the body of the hat was shorter and the wings were soft and drooped downwards, yet later, in the mid-Joseon era, the body became taller and the wings became wider and horizontal. In the late Joseon Dynasty, the body became shorter and smaller again, as did the wings, which became shorter and curved forward.
