This is a container made of thin bamboo strips woven together to create an open top and a round rim. In Korea, since bamboos are mostly produced in Yeongnam and Honam regions, bamboo baskets have commonly developed around these southern areas, along with most aspects of bamboo crafts. When weaving a bamboo basket, both the outer and inner strips of bamboo are used. Bamboo baskets made with outer strips are bluish in color and more durable, while those made with inner strips are white and less resilient. Bamboo baskets are used to dry foods, strain grains or vegetables after washing them. Although plastic baskets are rapidly taking over the place of bamboo baskets, bamboo baskets remain in widespread usage due to their diverse range of uses.
